Does CBD oil work for weight loss?

The cause of weight gain

In most of the cases when a person is overweight, it is a struggle with metabolism.  Insulin is a vital part of the metabolism. Without it, your body would cease to function.

Insulin is a natural hormone produced by your pancreas that controls how your body uses and stores blood sugar (glucose). Insulin is also one of the main hormones responsible for lowering your blood sugar levels.  If you are insulin resistant it means that your blood sugar levels are higher than they should be which leads to a state where your body store fat a lot more easily because another function of insulin is to promote fat storage.

we can summarise the problem like this:

  • If you regularly eat a lot of high carbohydrate food, over time, it slowly builds up an underlying level of insulin resistance, even when you are still slim.
  • When this insulin resistance hits a certain threshold, it becomes very easy to put on weight.
  • This weight gain can then happen even if you have not change your diet.
  • Once insulin resistant, foods you used to eat with no ill effect suddenly becomes the food that quickly cause weight gain.

The effects of this metabolic problem, stretch beyond just weight gain. It can cause high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and chronic fatigue, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is therefore important to get your metabolism and the insulin production under control in your body.

How does CBD Fit in to weight loss.

Many people that have used cannabis before, knows that you get the munchies, and in that state, you can eat great amounts of food. The question is then often raised, if Cannabis gives you the munchies, how can it help with weight loss?

It is the Cannabis sativa species and the THC in it that affects how much we eat. By binding with cannabinoid receptors in the brain, THC overrides the signals that would usually tell our body we're full. However, in the case of CBD oil, we aren't dealing with THC. Instead, CBD oils from the Indica plant with lower THC content, works on the CB1 receptor to regulate appetite.

If insulin resistance causes us to overeat, then CBD can help regulate our bodies through the endocannabinoid system to down grade the call of hunger caused by the insulin. In this way CBD can be a powerful tool in helping with weight loss.

CBD promotes what is known as browning of fat cells.

We have two types of fat, white fat and brown fat. White fat is the predominant form, responsible for storing and supplying energy while insulating and cushioning our organs. It is also the type of fat that is most associated with chronic illnesses — such as diabetes and heart disease.

The brown fat is responsible for generating heat by burning calories. Individuals with a healthy weight tend to have more brown fat than overweight people. You can convert white fat to brown by exercising, getting adequate sleep, and exposing yourself to cold temperatures and changing your diet. This is another avenue where CBD affects weight in that the right protocol of CBD oil aids in the process of turning white fat into brown fat cells.

Using CBD alone used as a weight loss tool, has positive outcomes. However, if you want to have a full arsenal, you must use the CBD products in conjunction with an effective nutrition plan and exercise regime. This has been shown to be the most effective approach in affecting long-lasting weight loss.
